What if?

I'm stealing this from Barry today, Jon Kabat-Zinn:

I think this one will be going in my sidebar.

I know I've not been posting as often as before and when I have I've been "coasting" lately, not offering anything original but only posting rehashes from other blogs, videos, and the like.

"You prepare yourself...arrange your ballast and then the wave swamps the boat." ~Garrison Keillor, A Letter from Copenhagen

Truth is that I've had waves swamp my boat, so to speak, in several areas of my life at all at once in recent weeks and months. It's not stuff that I feel like I can write about, I just can't be that kind of blogger. I never have been able to be that kind of blogger. It's a wonder/contradiction that such an intensely private person such as myself even has a blog. :) Furthermore, creative juices are not flowing much right now, and circumstances seem to have also conspired to keep me away from much of any contact with life giving nature.... Add it all together, and...I got nuthin'....

Perhaps the present vicissitudes are why the above video resonates with me so much. I do know one thing: my mindfulness mediation practice is saving my life right now.... Interesting coincidence also that Barry posted this video and I happen to be reading Jon Kabat-Zinn's book Wherever You Go, There You Are....

Ok, now that I've rambled on only semi-coherently and said too much...so long until next time, whenever that may be.

Peace

  1. Forest, don't worry about it. Your blog simply is one extension of you and I'm confident it's not the most important one. Your faithful readers understand that life is filled with ups and downs -- blogs are nice, but, in the overall scheme of things, they aren't THAT important.

We're overjoyed when you can share a fragment of what's swirling in your head. We will wait patiently for your next installment.

Catch your breath. Feed your soul. Take care of what's important to you.

  2. RT,
You're a wise and compassionate man. (I don't care what the Christians say about you ;)

Thank you. You words mean much to me.

  5. FW~ I'm sorry for whatever you are going though.

That's pretty much what has stopped me from posting at all...

I loved this video, and related to your saying that your meditation is the thing that that is saving you.

It is one thing to know in theory the fallow and difficult times are as essential and inevitable as the fruitful and easy ones, and another to live through it and keep that perspective. But I do believe that meditation is the very best tool we have to help us keep that perspective...

Boy, I'm up past my bedtime, off to bed...

  6. I always love visiting your blog because it is restful and meditative. The pauses between blogging just adds variation to the score.
    Take care..

  7. The past few weeks have been just AWFUL at my end too. I find that looking more closely into nature keeps my focus off the things I can't control. Hopefully spring will bring some warm breezes and gentle sunshine, hinting at better days to come.

  8. Amy,
I "feel your pain" as the cliche goes. Blogging may be sort of like a support group for loners and extreme introverts...maybe.... ;)

And I'm certainly with you completely re: your comment about the value of meditation.

    Bella,
You are very kind. Thank you.

    Flandrumhill,
Here's hoping with you. Thanks for commiserating. :)

  9. You know the saying by Camus: it was in the midst of winter that I discovered within myself an invincible summer. Stepping out of the whirlwind into meditation must help you find that invincible summer. Keep on looking. Even this Christian wishes you well. ;)
