"The pace of global warming is likely to be much faster than recent predictions, because industrial greenhouse gas emissions have increased more quickly than expected and higher temperatures are triggering self-reinforcing feedback mechanisms in global ecosystems....
Unexpectedly large amounts of carbon dioxide are being released into the atmosphere as the result of "feedback loops" that are speeding up natural processes. Prominent among these, evidence indicates, is a cycle in which higher temperatures are beginning to melt the arctic permafrost, which could release hundreds of billions of tons of carbon and methane into the atmosphere."

Well, now that's certainly a fine thought for starting out on Monday morning. What do you suppose our beloved Great Northwoods will look like a decade hence?
ReplyDeleteYet another reason to keep practicing. And stay informed. And continue to lessen our individual carbon footprints...
ReplyDeleteGrizzled,
ReplyDeleteThank you for being such a faithful reader and commenter. In the past when I have posted such "uplifting" thoughts, I can count on next to no...or no comments. I know this stuff isn't what people come here to read, and that one can get such news in many places...just as I do.
But in a way I don't care. It's a message that must be heard...and faced...and not shyed from. And I post it just as much or more to keep myself woken up as I do for anyone else's benefit.
I'll be honest...it's the one issue that is nearest and dearest to my being. It's the one issue that can keep me awake at night above all else. It's the one issue that would make me a "voice crying in the wilderness" if need be.
I cannot even imagine what the decades ahead will look like in the land I love most....
Molly,
ReplyDeleteYes! Thank you. :)
Here's to hoping that the current interest in all things green will also be exponential in growth.
ReplyDeleteflandrumhill,
ReplyDeleteYes. Hoping with you.
I think what people want are solutions, and the encouragement to make sacrifices when others aren't.
ReplyDeleteEgaaaads!
ReplyDeleteWe need more "uplifting thoughts" like this. Familiarizing ourselves with, then thoroughly investigating, the reality of problematic situations is the only way we can find appropriate solutions.
Well said, Alice. Thanks.
